As a life coach specializing in confidence, one of the first challenges I often give to my clients is to identify their strengths. This may seem like a simple task, but it is an important one. Knowing your strengths can help you build confidence, overcome obstacles, and achieve your goals. We often focus so much on what we think makes us inadequate, and it's time to remind ourselves that we have strengths that we can use to live the life that we deserve.
Reflect on your strengths
During Week 1 of coaching, I challenge my clients to identify their top three strengths. This can be done by reflecting on past successes, asking for feedback from others, or taking a strengths assessment. Once they have identified their strengths, I encourage them to write them down in a journal or on a piece of paper that they can refer to throughout the week. Some people use sticky notes and put them around their homes, workspace, or their cars. The point is to keep these as reminders because you are going to forget how awesome you are.
Why is it important to identify your strengths?
When you focus on your strengths, you build confidence and self-esteem. You become more aware of what you are good at, and you can use those strengths to your advantage. You may also find that you enjoy tasks or activities that utilize your strengths, which can bring a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. Have you ever seen a young child develop the confidence to do something that seems like a Herculean task? It's amazing! The look on their faces, when they achieve something, is even more amazing.
Identifying your strengths can also help you overcome challenges and self-doubt. When faced with a difficult task or situation, you can remind yourself of your strengths and how they can help you succeed. Instead of focusing on your weaknesses or shortcomings, you can focus on what you are capable of and how you can use your strengths to overcome obstacles.
My motto when I am in the middle of a tough workout or a tough situation in life is:
"You are stronger than you think you are."
So, how can you identify your strengths?
Here are some tips:
- Reflect on past successes: Think about times when you have achieved something you are proud of. What strengths did you use to accomplish that goal?
- Ask for feedback: Ask friends, family, or colleagues to identify your strengths. You may be surprised by what they see in you.
- Take a strengths assessment: There are many online assessments that can help you identify your strengths. Some popular ones include the CliftonStrengths assessment and the VIA Character Strengths survey.
Once you have identified your strengths, make sure to write them down and keep them in a place where you can easily refer to them. Throughout the week, focus on these strengths and how you can use them to achieve your goals.
Remember, identifying your strengths is an important first step in building confidence and achieving success. By focusing on what you are good at, you can overcome obstacles, build self-esteem, and find fulfillment in your life. So, take the challenge and identify your top three strengths today! Let me know how you do with this challenge.
