Happiness seems elusive for most. Sometimes when I feel like the world is too much, I take a look around. There is always someone inspiring that shows me that no matter what struggles I have, I can overcome them like they did.
You may think, “how did their lives get to be so great?”, “How come they can still shine and smile even through the tough times?”.
Maybe, we have what they have - we just need to remember to dig it out from deep inside.
So how exactly can we be happy?
The first step is to love ourselves
When you love yourself, you are accepting yourself. Flaws and all. We have to find a way to bring out our courage past our flaws and find ways to bounce back from mistakes. We all make mistakes. It’s part of being human. So we must forgive ourselves for those mistakes.
Take a moment for gratitude
Taking stock of everything you have also helps us be happy. I know I forget just how lucky I am to have what I have. We take our blessings for granted. But when we become mindful and remember that we have plenty to be grateful for, we can be happy.
I don’t want you to get me wrong. Complaining, wishing for more, and outgrowing where we stand is perfectly normal too. Sometimes complaining is all we need to vent and let it out. A lot of people don’t get this and try to guilt us with, “you should be grateful!”. That doesn’t help, does it?
But for the most part, when we are feeling unhappy or stuck in a rut, taking some time for gratitude helps. If it doesn’t, then take a look at your life and see what is truly missing. Then do something about it.
Happiness is not an enigma
For some reason, “happiness” seems like this big complicated life secret that only a few can access. But I guarantee you that the people you see as ‘always happy’ have a lot of dark moments as well. They also have doubts, fears, FOMO, and insecurities.
The difference is that they are mindful and constantly seek happiness from within. This is true for those with genuine happiness.
There are people who appear to be happy but they tend to mask their unhappiness with superficiality to hide behind it.
You’re going to be ok
I know times are tough right now. For every one of us. So it is even more important now to continue to work towards bringing out our happiness from within. Then we can spread the joy with those around us.
