Failure leads to happiness? Let me explain.
The last time I wrote about happiness, I said that self-love and gratitude are the first steps to happiness. Those aren't the only things that can bring happiness.
If you read my article (you can check it out here) and took stock of what you have to be grateful for - good job! Did you see that task become a snowball? Like you couldn't stop writing things to be grateful for?
Sometimes all it takes is one little thing to get the ball rolling. You start with one thing to be grateful for and then realize you are looking at the bigger things.
The truth is that if we keep going around questioning why bad things happen to us, it will be harder to find happiness from within.
Last time we talked about seeking happiness from within. I also mentioned that complaining about what we have going wrong in our life is perfectly normal too. However, if after our gratitude exercise we were still unhappy, it is time to do something about it.
Let go of your fear of failure
I believe that in life we have to put ourselves out there. Outside of our comfort zone. We have to try things even if there is a chance of failing. Failures, after all, are lessons.
Of course, I am not saying quit your job and lose your home to foreclosure. But take calculated risks or start the side gig you've always dreamed of.
How to be happy through failure?
Doing nothing, taking no action is the ultimate failure. Every time we take action whether it's the right move or not, you are one step closer to getting where you want to be. This will ultimately lead to making significant changes in your life to be happy.
Taking action and failing is better than taking no action. Whatever it is that you need to do to point your life toward the direction of happiness, do it.
Start with small steps.
Set your ultimate goal. List the things you need to do to make it happen. Then attack that list. You'll get bumps along the way but remember that you are doing something to make the life you want.
Food for thought
Genuine happiness isn't about things, status, or money. If you take a moment to really think about it, happiness is about how we want to feel. Do you want to feel powerful? Admired? Respected? Loved? Included?
You may think you need a brand new shiny car to feel admired. Or you may want to drop 30 pounds to feel loved. But you can achieve all of this by looking at your life and making minor changes to your perception.
Happiness is about how we want to feel.
Learn to accept yourself, to love yourself, and forgive yourself for your mistakes. Take action if you need to make changes to your life. You don't have to wait to reach your goals to be happy, you can be happy now.
What is happiness for you? What will it take to get it?
